GET THE FUNK OUT! | CREATIVE KNOWLEDGE BROKER NINJA TIP
i wanted to talk to you about something which I think is a bit of an urban phenomenon, which I think I’ve heard people call this ‘MIND FUNK’, love the term.
So, I wanted to give you my definition of what I think ‘MIND FUNK’ is and how we can get out of it.
I see a lot of people stuck in this space, and it really is that headspace of where you are stuck, you’re overwhelmed, you feel grey, you feel undirected, you feel stuck in a pattern of negative thoughts.
The only way I have found to get out of that space is to break the pattern by doing something simple like running, movement, exercise or something that does a little mental shift of positive action.
This positive movement action will help to get you out of it. For example, I went for a run this morning as I felt awful all weekend. I don’t know why, I just woke up on Saturday, couldn’t get out of the mood I was in and it basically hung over me for most of the weekend and I just couldn’t get myself out of it. So, I said to myself, that the only way I am going to get out of this is by creating momentum, generating some motion, and as the saying goes ‘motion makes emotion’.
So, I got up first thing this morning and went out for a run. It was a beautiful and crisp morning, and the combination of fresh air, movement and energy completely shifted my mindset, putting me back into my normal state. But I did have to recognise that it was okay to get ‘MIND FUNK’, it was okay to feel like that, it was okay to feel grey, it was okay to feel undirected, sometimes we all need that, but the quickest way, honestly, to get out of those situations and not to dwell on them, is to take a bit of action. Let’s have a bit of motion and get some emotion going. And once we get that emotion in motion, it breaks that pattern.
It reminds me of that ‘Extreme’ song, ‘If you don’t like what you see here, get the funk out’, and I really, really aligned with that this morning, and I said to myself, “get the funk out!” because I’m not feeling like this anymore.
If you’re suffering from ‘MIND FUNK’, which a lot of us do, then get some movement going to generate some sort of motion and this will trigger a different emotion. So hopefully this will help you ‘GET THE FUNK OUT!’.
